Keeping up with the plan...

OK -- It’s Friday, not website/blog Wednesday. I have a better excuse than usual for not following the plan: Wednesday was my husband’s birthday. I cooked breakfast (which I rarely do) and we went skiing beneath a bluebird sky on the only day in NINE that he isn’t on call, followed by a hot tub soak for our overtaxed muscles and a lovely dinner out. The cover photo for this post is from https://www.artistsnetwork.com/, which provides me with lots of inspiration and assistance.
On Tuesday, my dedicated art day, I attended a fabulous watercolor painting demonstration by a gifted artist. Gunnar Tryggmo draws wildlife with exquisite detail, then paints as if telling a story of what the subject animal is doing and how. His work is highlighted on his website, gunnartryggmo.se.
I deeply appreciate Gunnar Tryggmo’s attention to detail, but also his ability to focus on his subject, and relinquish attention to background detail. Watching him paint inspired me to work on drawing animals (for which I might need to take some courses!) and to actively limit my efforts to paint in minute detail everything in the view I wish to depict. This goes for things I paint from photos, as well as views I paint en plein air. I start today!!! On a non-art day, I have everything set up to try my hand (actually my pencil) at drawing some animals.
I also worked for several hours yesterday at Public Health, as intended by my defined Thursday routine. It was highly satisfying to wrap up final drafts of several documents that define, and thereby will improve, clinic functions. Still plenty more to work on, and I love being with my friends and colleagues there.
This Sunday, we’ll attend a Super Bowl Party with good friends, several of whom are from the San Francisco area. We love to party with friends while watching an important game, but neither my husband nor I pay very much attention to football, baseball, basketball, hockey, or any other big-team, big-league sport. We kind of know what’s going on, at least toward the end of a season. We’re more likely to be found watching tennis matches or ski competitions. In keeping with suggestions from most of the food aficionados I follow regarding healthier party fare, my contribution will include a big bowl of roasted chickpeas sprinkled lightly with sea salt and ground sumac to munch on.
The last post of this blog was a day early; this time my post is two days late. At least it’s not weeks later!!!
